Portuguese visas are given to residents of Portugal with the end goal of global travel. The identification, alongside the Citizen Card takes into consideration free privileges of development and living arrangement in any of the conditions of the European Union, European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The ordinary identification is a dark red tone with brilliant print, and is composed uniquely in Portuguese. Adhering to European Union Standards the identification bears the title União Europeia over the nation name and the title of Passaporte. The visa contains pictures of the Portuguese Coat-of-arms.

All residents of Portugal are qualified for a Portuguese identification. In Portugal, applications for a Portuguese identification should be made face to face specifically Civil Registries or Departments of Citizen Cards (at least one existing in each Portuguese ward). Abroad applications should be made face to face at a consular position (for example international safe haven, department general, or office).

The identification has 32 pages (barring the biographic data page), anyway just 28 are reasonable for visas (the other 4 pages remember the interpretation of the fields for the biographic page into every one of the official dialects of the EU)

Keeping European Union visa norms, the identification contains all official dialects of the EU. The cover is just imprinted in Portuguese (interpretations are inside the principal page.) The fields on the biographic page are imprinted in Portuguese, English, and French (in a specific order), with interpretations in the last three pages of the identification
